چکیده

Low temperatures cause a decrease in the absorption and movement of water in plants (1, 2, 3, 9, 10). This reduction is less in species native to cool environments than in species which normally grow in warm ones (10). This has been attributed to the combined effects of decreased permeability of the root membranes and the increased viscosity of the water. Kramer (9) observed that water flow through root systems increased as temperature was increased to 35 C, the highest temperature studied. Application of kinetic theory to similar biological systems has been made with success (8). This approach can reveal much concerning factors that limit the rate of biological processes that are not now well known.

Effect of salicylic acid on photochemistry and antioxidant capacity in Salvia nemorosa plants subjected to water stress.

Oxidative stress is commonly induced when plants are grown under drought stress conditions. To analyze how salicylic acid (SA) can partly alleviate drought-induced oxidative stress and negative impacts of drought on physiology and growth of Salvia nemorosa plants, we investigated the physiological responses of S. nemorosa to SA application under drought stress. The treatments were composed of Co...

Overexpression of PIP2;5 Aquaporin Alleviates Effects of Low Root Temperature on Cell Hydraulic Conductivity and Growth in Arabidopsis1[W][OA]

The effects of low root temperature on growth and root cell water transport were compared between wild-type Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) and plants overexpressing plasma membrane intrinsic protein 1;4 (PIP1;4) and PIP2;5. Descending root temperature from 25°C to 10°C quickly reduced cell hydraulic conductivity (Lp) in wild-type plants but did not affect Lp in plants overexpressing PIP1;4 ...

Effect of temperature on water and ion transport in soybean and broccoli systems.

Steady-state flow rates and exudate osmotic potentials were measured from complete root systems from warm- (28/23 C) or cold-(17/11 C) grown soybean or broccoli (Brassica oleracea) plants at various pressures or different temperatures. In warm-grown soybean roots systems, a break occurred at 14.7 C in the Arrhenius plot of total flow at constant pressure. When plants were grown at lower temperat...

An experimental investigation on the performance of a symmetric conical solar collector using SiO2/water nanofluid

One of the effective methods to improve the thermal efficiency of solar collectors is using nanofluids as the coolant. The present study experimentally investigated the effect of SiO2/water nanofluid with 1% mass fraction on the performance of a symmetric collector, i.e. conical solar collector. The conical solar collector with 1 m2 area and normal to the earth was tested in Ahvaz, a city in th...
